Snowplow Stewards

In the fall of 1999, SDOT and Seattle Public Schools launched a project in which students from a local elementary school adopted a snowplow and painted the snowplow blade for the plow. This project was run by Roxanne Thomas, Manager of Street Maintenance.
Students were encouraged to use themes that reflect conservation, the environment, weather and stewardship as they painted the blade of their adopted snowplow. They were also encouraged to have fun!
The painting kit used was provided by the City of Seattle Graffiti Rangers and the Seattle School District. Our thanks to the schools and the students who participated, and to everyone involved who made this project happen.
In 2002/2003, we partnered with the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department for our snowplow painting project. Children at Bitter Lake Community Center, Jefferson Community Center and Camp Long painted plow blades. This program provides an opportunity to increase the children's knowledge about snow & ice preparation.
