Seattle's Transit Master Plan

Keeping Seattle moving and reducing greenhouse gases

What’s happening on Seneca Street

When the Transit Tunnel reopens, several bus routes using the Alaskan Way Viaduct will directly access Third Avenue to take advantage of transit priority operating during peak-commute hours. The changes described below will start in early September.

Improvements

  • Extend the existing eastbound lane from First Avenue to Third Avenue for use by buses only
  • Add a new eastbound bus zone on Seneca, just east of Second Avenue

Benefits

  • Improve speed and reliability of buses
  • Provide more convenient bus stops and connections for bus riders traveling south of Seneca Street
  • Reduce congestion on First and Second avenues
