A-Frame Signs

A-frame signs placed on sidewalks are a highly valued advertising medium for Seattle businesses. While these signs help to draw customers into retailers and restaurants, they can often impede pedestrian mobility and obstruct the visibility of the traveling public. The Public Space Management Program is tasked with developing, implementing, and enforcing new rules that regulate the size and placement of A-frame signs in the right of way. In 2016 the Public Space Management Program will assess the current use of A-frame signs and how these signs fit into the larger picture of walkability and safety in Seattle. This research will help inform policy development as we look to balance the needs of local businesses with the needs of people walking in the city.
