Intermediate Capacity Transit Study

This summary of the Seattle Transit Study outlines the study process, summarizes what we learned and presents our recommendations. This is a large PDF file. On a 28.8 modem the download will be about 9 minutes, on a 56k modem it would be between 4.5 to 5 minutes. If you want a hard copy of the summary, please contact the SDOT Policy, Planning and Major Projects office at (206) 684-8080 to request one.

Traffic's Tough

As Seattle has grown, getting around has gotten a lot more difficult and residents want new answers. The Seattle Transit Study is exploring Intermediate Capacity Transit as a transportation option for people who are tired of being stuck in traffic.

Goals of Study

  • Enhance the range of transportation choices within the City.
  • Connect the neighborhoods and key destinations
  • implement many Neighborhood Plans' goals and recommendations.

The Seattle Transit Study will assess the feasibility of developing Intermediate Capacity Transit (ICT) options in corridors throughout the City. The Study will examine where and how ICT can best be used in order to significantly improve transit connections within the City and to regional transit systems, such as light rail, commuter rail and regional express buses.

Visit the Stage 1 or Stage 2 pages to learn more about recommendations and implementation plans from the Study.

The Seattle Transit Study is part of the Seattle Transit Initiative, a City-sponsored partnership of agencies involved in building, operating and supporting transit services.
