Seattle Pedestrian Master Plan: Plan Background

Pedestrians in SeattleAlthough Seattle has a significantly lower pedestrian collision rate than comparable U.S. cities, Mayor Nickels and the City Council made pedestrian safety a top priority in 2007. A number of City-sponsored initiatives provided the momentum for the Pedestrian Master Plan:

Each of these initiatives creates a strong foundation for the Pedestrian Master Plan through supportive policies and design guidance, as well as funding for new projects and maintenance of existing infrastructure. Pedestrian Safety is a top priority!
