Public Safety Campaigns

Public safety campaigns may be targeted at any group of roadway and/or walkway users, but are often directed at motorists. A public safety campaign reminds the audience of the potential negative effects of certain behaviors. For example, Think of the Impact You Could Make is a well-known public safety campaign that calls attention to vulnerable populations (e.g., children crossing the street) and encourages drivers to think about the consequences of failing to yield to crossing pedestrians. The Federal Highway Administrations Pedestrian Safety Toolkit provides materials on which to base a pedestrian safety campaign.
