SDOT and Mariner Moose Promote Pedestrian Safety SDOT Deputy Director Robert Powers, Safe Routes to School Coordinator Brian Dougherty, Seattle School District Representative Richard Staudt and the Mariner Moose joined second graders at Arbor Heights Elementary school, today, to celebrate the completion of both the Pedestrian Safety Pledge Program and the Safe Routes to School sidewalk project. The group reviewed safe walking tips with the second graders including: how to correctly cross the street; how to obey traffic signals; and what to wear while walking. Students were asked to map and walk a four-block radius once a week, for four weeks. The campaign also helped parents work with their children to outline safe walking routes. Students who completed the program earned prizes and celebrated with a Fiesta Party by program sponsor Taco Del Mar.
