2015 Arterial Paving Project: Renton Avenue South

Major construction activities associated with Phase 2 of the Renton Ave S Repaving Project are complete. In the next few weeks you may see crews along Renton Ave S cleaning up the road striping.We realize this project has impacted people living and working in the area. Thanks for your patience during construction.

Project Overview

Renton Ave S is a minor arterial street serving approximately 8,800 southeast Seattle commuters, bicyclists, transit riders and commercial vehicles every day. To improve safety for all people, we are is installing new curb ramps and curb bulbs between S Holden St and S 112th Pl. We are also repaving this section of roadway to address seams and cracks in the surface and to reduce future maintenance costs.

Timeline

Construction is happening in two phases:

  • Phase 1 was completed in fall 2015 and spring 2016. Phase 1 included improvements along Renton Ave S from S Holden St to 51st Ave S. See below for photos of some of the completed elements.


    Phase 1 Improvements

  • Phase 2 was completed in November 2016. Phase 2 includes improvements along Renton Ave S from 51st Ave S to S 112th Pl.

Project Funding

The Phase 1 project budget of $4 million was funded by the voter-approved Bridging the Gap levy as part of SDOT’s Arterial Asphalt and Concrete (AAC) Program.

The Phase 2 project budget of $5.4 million is being funded by the voter-approved Transportation Levy to Move Seattle, approved by voters in 2015. Learn more about the levy at www.seattle.gov/LevytoMoveSeattle.
