Changes planned for the N 130th Street Corridor
To improve safety, pedestrian access and bicycle usage, SDOT is planning changes along N 130th Street between Linden Avenue N and Greenwood Avenue N as part of our 2010 Pedestrian Master Plan Early Implementation.
We plan to implement these changes in spring 2010.
These changes are designed to:
- Improve pedestrian crossing safety
- Improve N 130th St for bicycling
- Improve access to transit
The proposed changes will include:
- One lane of motor vehicle traffic in eachdirection.
- New bicycle lanes in each direction.
- New pedestrian median islands at the marked crosswalk at North Park Avenue N.
- There will be a small amount of parking loss onthe south side of N 130th Street between LindenAvenue N and Fremont Avenue N.
SDOT is working with King County Metro to evaluate existing bus zone locations and pedestrian connections.

Project Location: N 130th Street between Linden Avenue N and Greenwood Avenue N, approximately six blocks. Both Greenwood Avenue N and Linden Avenue N are signalized intersections.
Current N 130th Street Configuration/Operation:
- The roadway is three lanes with parking primarily on the north side of the street.
- The two westbound travel lanes are 9.5’ wide.
- There is an existing marked crosswalk at North Park Avenue N (street right of way).
- There are 4 Metro bus zones along the corridor.
- N 130 th is a principal arterial.
Proposed changes to N 130th Street include:
- Eliminate one westbound travel lane.
- East of Phinney Avenue N, provide 13’ wide travel lanes in each direction.
- Install bicycle lanes or sharrows in each direction.
- Construct pedestrian median island at the marked crosswalk at North Park Avenue N to serve pedestrians accessing Bitter Lake Park, Bitter Lake Community Center and Bitter Lake Manor (Seattle Housing Authority Senior Housing Development)
- Add left turn pocket for the eastbound approach at the signalized intersection of Linden Ave N.
- Restrict parking on the south side of N 130 th Street between Linden Avenue N and Fremont Avenue N.
Important Points:
- There will be no changes to N 130th St between Aurora Ave N and Linden Ave N.
- No reduction of capacity at Greenwood Avenue N as the westbound left, through and right turn lanes will remain and an 18.5’ eastbound lane will be maintained.
- Improved capacity at Linden Avenue N with the added eastbound left turn pocket.
