ISA Pruning Event
On December 7, over forty local certified arborists joined SDOT and Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation tree crews, to prune close to 550 SDOT-maintained street trees. The volunteer work day was the fourth annual event that partnered the City of Seattle with members of the local Pacific Northwest Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), a non-profit organization that promotes research and professionalism in the fields of arboriculture and urban forestry.
The pruning that was accomplished contributed to the health of Seattle’s urban forest by providing clearance for vehicles and pedestrians, improving the structure of many trees, and contributing to the Mayor’s Climate Action Now agenda.
Trees were pruned along 15 th Ave NW and NW Holman Rd in Ballard, Martin Luther King Jr. Way and 29 th Ave in the Central District, and 35 th Ave Southwest in West Seattle. Thanks are due to all who were involved in this project, especially the private sector arborists and tree care companies that volunteered their time and resources.
