Mowat Construction Getting Ready
Mowat Construction-the contractor SDOT selected for the project-will be moving into on-site offices over the next few weeks, preparing to start the 25-month rebuild of Fremont's bridge approaches plus traffic signals and street curbs at several intersections in the central Fremont business area.
Preliminary plans are to begin staging and securing the site after Labor Day. Closure of the Burke Mill Road, the Burke Gilman Trail and the Ship Canal Trail is expected on Monday September 12th, following creation of an alternative bike route along 34th Street.
Business Community Briefing - 8/18
A meeting will be held at 9AM on Thursday, August 18th at Adobe's Plaza Building, University #3, to brief the business community on the Fremont Bridge Approach Project. Information on the upcoming changes at intersections along Fremont Avenue and 36th Streets will be provided, as well as on the overall project schedule. SDOT will also share its plans for providing future updates about construction activities and impacts.
The meeting is for all the businesses in the Fremont area; owners and managers are particularly encouraged to attend.
Frequent Flyer Volunteers Needed!
Distribution of these biweekly project updates to Fremont area businesses will depend, in part, on volunteers. Please consider assisting with the delivery of these construction bulletins by handing out flyers to the neighboring establishments.
Street Renamed for Troll
The City Council has unanimously approved legislation to rename the street directly below the Aurora Bridge as Troll Avenue North, largely to help emergency personnel differentiate between the two roads.
The troll, who moved here in 1990, is looking forward to the change, hoping it attracts more visitors, as he has been thinking of getting a new car before long.
Bridge Way Bids Under Evaluation
Bids for construction on the Bridge Way North street improvements are under evaluation.
Work under this contract will significantly improve access between Fremont and the Aurora Bridge, officially known as the George Washington Memorial Bridge.
