Downtown Transportation Study - What We Already Know

By 2024, we expect about 50,000 new jobs and 22,000 new households in the Center City . The constraints imposed by Downtown’s existing geography and layout leave little opportunity to expand roads to accommodate more cars. Keeping people and goods moving efficiently requires better access and priority for transit, removing barriers to walking and biking, managing on-street parking more effectively, and relieving chokepoints for trucks and necessary car trips. In combination, these improvements will offer a more pleasant and safe experience for the rapidly increasing number of Seattleites that call Downtown home.

The graphic below shows the key plans informing the study, of the dozens of existing land use and transportation plans and projects we are reviewing.
