Corridor Projects

 

23rd Avenue: This project looked at marked crosswalks along 23 rd Avenue between E Thomas Street and S Norman Street in conjunction with a King County Metro Service and Reliability Project. Many of the existing Metro stops were relocated to existing traffic signals.

Rainier Avenue South Repaving Project: The repaving of Rainier Avenue South between 2003 and 2004 prompted SDOT to reevaluate marked crosswalks along this corridor. A pedestrian signal was installed at one location, and marked crosswalks were removed at four locations.

Rainier Avenue South Road Diet: To improve the six marked crosswalks along the very southern portion of Rainier Avenue South (from 57 th Ave S to the City Limits), SDOT completed a road diet in 2004. A road diet is the reduction in the number of motor vehicle travel lanes. In this case, the four lane roadway was converted to one lane in each direction with bicycle lanes and a center turn lane.

Westlake Avenue North: When Westlake Avenue North was repaved during construction of the Westlake Trail, SDOT reevaluated the marked crosswalks along this corridor. We were able to improve two of the seven marked crosswalks on this corridor (at Aloha Street and at Crockett Street ). The remaining five marked crosswalks were removed, in some cases in conjunction with the relocation of Metro bus zones.
