Work on Some of the City’s Most Exciting and Challenging Capital Projects
SDOT is looking for contractors and consultants to bid on a wide range of construction opportunities that will be available in 2010 and 2011.
SDOT’s Capital Projects and Roadway Structure (CPRS) Division is responsible for the planning, design and construction of capital projects that maintain and improve the City’s transportation infrastructure.
Third Annual Contractors Outreach Forum: Invitation To Contractors/Consultants/Suppliers:
For the past two years Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) has hosted an event for construction contractors (primes and subs) to inform them of upcoming SDOT capital project construction opportunities and to facilitate networking between primes and subs. Involvement in the gathering is also an opportunity for primes to show good faith effort on required outreach plans when submitting bids.
Last year’s event held at the Northwest African American Museum (NAAM) was quite successful in that it brought together approximately 150 people, including the representation of ten primes and 120 businesses in all. We expect a larger turnout this year.
On the evening of December 15th, 2009 the Seattle Department of Transportation is planning to host its Third Annual Contractors Outreach Forum and this time at a larger facility, provided by the Port of Seattle.
While we are still working on final details, the location and time for this event are confirmed and are as follows:
SeaTac Airport Office Building Center; December 15th, 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. We are thinking about conducting two sessions – (A) 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and (B) 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The plan is for prime contractors to be at both sessions. We welcome your comments regarding this approach and would like to know which time slot (“A” or “B”) you would prefer to attend.
Please RSVP by contacting George Frost, by Friday, November 16th if one or more representatives from your business plan to attend. ALSO provide contact information (name, phone, email) for those planning to attend. You may contact George Frost via email at george.frost@seattle.gov; or telephone (206) 615-0786.
By the way, while there is no cost to attend and participate in the event, which includes food and beverages, there will be a cost for parking. Parking rates: General parking is $3.00 per hour or Terminal Direct Rate Fourth Floor parking is $4.00 per hour.
Thank you in advance for your feedback regarding this event.
The SDOT Second Annual Contractor Outreach Forum - a great success!
Nearly 120 people attended the Second Annual Contractor Outreach Forum, held at the Northwest African American Museum in Seattle this past December. That number represented contractors and a few consulting firms, with at least 10 prime contractor businesses in the mix. One main goal of the forum, led by the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), is to create construction contracting and networking opportunities for small, women and minority-owned businesses - a goal that was met with success in 2008. Involvement from prime contractors contributes to the “Good Faith” acknowledgment on required Outreach Plan when submitting bids.
At the winter 2008 forum SDOT and Seattle’s Department of Executive Administration (http://www.seattle.gov/contract/pwpan.htm) answered questions about the City’s bidding and award processes, contract specifications and plans, and the City’s eBid Website (www.ebidexchange.com). Staff from the City of Seattle, as well as from the Urban League's Contractor Development & Competitiveness Center (CDCC), managed the resource tables and facilitated networking opportunities. Project managers spoke about project plans and provided other information about the more than $200 million in construction contracts SDOT expects to award in 2009. Comments returned after the event were very favorable, including praise for the menu of food and refreshments designed by Northwest African American Museum Executive Chef Jemil Aziz Johnson.
Thank you to all who were involved this last winter and we hope to see you next time, for the Third Annual Contractor Outreach Forum the winter of 2009! As a reminder, forum objectives include:
- Create an opportunity for construction contractors to network with subcontractors
- Introduce construction contractors to new opportunities at SDOT
- Answer questions about the City’s bidding and award processes, contract specifications and plans, and the City’s eBid web site
- Provide opportunity for prime contractors to solicit subcontracts with small, women and minority-owned businesses
- Provide prime contractors with “Good Faith” acknowledgment on required Outreach Plan when submitting bids
If you want to receive information about future Contractor Outreach Forums, and you are not on the City's business roster for construction contractors, please contact the Department of Executive Administration (DEA) directly at (206) 684-0987 or call the SDOT Capital Projects & Roadway Structures Division at (206) 615-1225. |
