Celebrate Seattle Summer Streets

2008 Car Free Days in review

In 2008, the city piloted Care Free Days. Our goal was to open up streets for biking, walking and playing; promote healthy, affordable activities; and encourage people to think about using sustainable types of transportation. In 2009, the program was rebranded to Celebrate Seattle Summer Streets and expanded to support art walks, farmer’s markets, parades and a 5K walk/run fundraiser event. The events were bigger and better and the call from communities to hold them more often was heard.

Due to the budget cuts, the city must find sponsors to keep the events going in 2010. To learn more about how you can support the project click here and help us bring these great events back by spreading the word.
