Seattle CAN

Car Free Day—Volunteer Park
A fun, affordable, healthy way to enjoy our streets

The first event is being held August 24 from noon until 6 p.m. The city is opening up 14th Avenue and the street loop within Volunteer Park for people to walk, play, skate and bicycle. It is the perfect opportunity to have lunch along 15th Avenue and stroll to the park to enjoy the Peace Concert , or plan a fun activity like a kickball game in the street. Some of the activities already planned include: a Bouncer for kids, a balloon artist and Buskers. Be creative, have fun and see what the city could be like if we drive less.

Parking will be restricted from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. along the route. Please plan ahead and observe posted parking restrictions. Access exceptions will be made for residents along the corridor if needed, emergency vehicles, and people with disabilities. If you are doing an activity on the sidewalk, please make sure to leave space for wheelchairs to use.

Please make your trip to the event car free. Visit our Commuter Toolkit web page to learn more about options to driving. Metro Bus routes going to Volunteer Park neighborhoods include: 8, 10, 12, 43, and 48. For a map of the bus routes visit the Capitol Hill Seattle blog. You can use Metro's Trip Planner to find the best bus route for you, or check out Seattle's Bicycle Map to find the best biking streets.

If Seattleites drove every vehicle 1,000 miles less a year, we would meet our current climate pollution reduction goals. See Seattle's Climate Action Now Initiative for more information.
