Mission
Celebrate Seattle Summer Streets is a series of events occurring between the months of April and September that open up streets for people to have fun, celebrate the spirit and personality of their community and support local businesses. Each even is hosted with the help of a local organization. Celebrate Seattle Summer Streets promotes healthy activities, promotes local businesses and illustrates what neighborhoods can be like when people drive less.
Background
Celebrate Seattle Summer Streets was inspired by a trip Seattleites took to Bogotá, Columbia. While there, they enjoyed the regular Sunday Ciclovia (bike path) where the city’s avenues close to traffic and open to bikes and play. Summer Streets were held in 2008 (formerly called Car Free Days) in 2009 and 2010. Their success continues to grow with communities asking for more them more often and in more locations.
Partners
Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, Rainier Valley Chamber of Commerce, West Seattle High School PTSA, Cascade Bicycle Club, Feet First, Great City, Sustainable Seattle and many more
