Car Free Days--Hillman City and Columbia City to Genesee Park
A fun, affordable, healthy way to enjoy our streets

The second car free day is being held August 31 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. The city is opening up a route leading from Genesee Park to 38th Avenue S and Alaska, down Rainier Avenue through Columbia City and Hillman City ending at Orcas. An easy connection can be made from Lake Washington Boulevard’s Bike Sunday event. This is a chance to bring your kids out to play in the park, ride bikes and enjoy an early dinner in Columbia City. Some of the activities already planned include: a balloon artist, Hula Hoop lessons and Buskers. If you are planning an activity, or want to see what other people are doing visit the Columbia Citizens Neighborhood Wiki site for an event map. For more information take a look at our residential and business door hangers.

Parking will be restricted along the route from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Please plan ahead and observe posted parking restrictions to avoid being cited or towed. Access exceptions will be made for emergency vehicles and people with disabilities. If you are doing an activity on the sidewalk, please make sure to leave space for wheelchairs to use.

Please make your trip to the event car free. Visit our Commuter Toolkit web page to learn more about options to driving.

Metro Bus routes going to Columbia City include: 7, 42, 48. They may be rerouted slightly to accommodate the event. Check Metro's Trip Planner to find the best bus route for you, or use Seattle's Bicycle Map to find the best biking streets.

If Seattleites drove every vehicle 1,000 miles less a year, we would meet our current climate pollution reduction goals. See Seattle's Climate Action Now Initiative for more information.
