Eastlake sidewalk project

July 20, 2009

Construction Update

7/20/2009: This project is complete.

5/13/2009 Construction will begin on Monday, May 18 and is expected to take 4-5 weeks (weather permitting).

Before constructionThis project was requested by the Eastlake Community Council to fill in the sidewalk gap on East Newton Street between Eastlake Ave East and Franklin Ave East.

Specifically, the project will:

  1. Build the half-block of missing link of sidewalk on the north-side of East Newton Street.
  2. Build curbs on both sides of the street to delineate the roadway and allow for trees to be planted in the planting strip.
  3. Make the sidewalk on the south-side of the street more accessible by removing the existing laurel hedge.
  4. Build a stairway to connect the alley on the north-side of the project area to East Newton Street.

In order to minimize costs due to grades and impacts to established landscaping, the new sidewalk will be built adjacent to the roadway and then connect to the existing sidewalk with planting strip. The existing parking will not be impacted.
