Project status

  • Storm drainage items have been installed.
  • Sidewalk construction between Greenwood Avenue North and Phinney Avenue North has been completed.
  • Progress has been slowed due to snow

What's ahead

  • Sidewalk and driveway construction will continue once snow melts

Construction Update 1/11/12:

Project status

  • Area for the new sidewalk is being prepared for construction.
  • Trees and hedges have been cleared out of the way.
  • Storm drainage items are being installed.

What's ahead

  • Sidewalk construction will begin between Greenwood Avenue North and Phinney Avenue North. Note: pedestrians may be detoured around the work zone.
  • Driveway construction will begin. Note: short-term driveway restrictions will be in place.

Construction Update 12/21/11

SDOT and its contractor will mobilize and start work activity on or shortly after January 3, 2012. This project is scheduled to be complete by early March.

Normal work hours will be 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Parking restrictions in and around the work zone should be expected.

Project area

SDOT is planning to build a new sidewalk on the north side of N 125th Street between Greenwood Avenue N and the Interurban Trail in early 2012.

Project elements

  • Building a new concrete sidewalk (with planter strip in some locations)
  • Installing ADA compliant wheelchair ramps
  • Rebuilding driveways
  • Planting trees, grass seed or groundcovers where possible
  • Artwork will be embedded in the new sidewalk

What to expect during construction

  • Temporary driveway closures (5-7 days)
  • Parking and loading restrictions near work zones
  • Selective tree and vegetation removal
  • Traffic and pedestrian detours
  • Moderate construction noise and dust

Project purpose and funding

This project has been selected using the newly adopted Seattle Pedestrian Master Plan, which is a long-term master plan to make Seattle the most walkable city in the nation.

This project is part of the “Bridging the Gap” transportation levy approved by Seattle voters in November 2006.
