Sidewalk Development Program: SW Cloverdale Street

Construction Update – 11/14/11

This project is now complete. Thank you for your patience during construction.

Construction update – 10/18/11

Project status

  • Concrete has been poured for the new sidewalk.
  • The new curb and gutter have been built.
  • Concrete has been poured for new driveway entrances.

What’s ahead

  • Landscaping of the project area will be complete by the end of the week.
  • New asphalt driveway entrances will be built.
    Note:  Driveways will be closed for one day once the asphalt has been placed at the driveway entrances.

 

Construction update – 10/10/11

Project status

  • The new curb and gutter have been graded out and prepared for construction.
  • Concrete has been poured to begin construction of the new curb and gutter.
    Note: pedestrians may be detoured around the work zone.
     

What’s ahead

  • The project area will be graded for sidewalk and driveway construction.
  • Shortly after grading, construction of the new sidewalk will begin.
    Note: pedestrians may be detoured around the work zone.

 

Construction update – 9/29/11

Project status

  • Temporary filters have been installed in the storm basins to absorb sediments heading into the storm drains.
  • Concrete has been removed from the project area.

What’s ahead

  • The project area will be graded for sidewalk and driveway construction.
  • Shortly after grading, construction of the new curb and gutter will begin.

 

Construction Update 9/14/11

SDOT and its contractor will mobilize and start work activity the week of September 26th.  This project is scheduled to be complete by mid/late October, weather permitting.

Normal work hours will be 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Project area

Work will occur on the south side of SW Cloverdale Street between 8th Avenue Southwest and 9th Avenue Southwest

Project elements

  • Building a new sidewalk (with planter strip in some locations)
  • Installing ADA compliant wheelchair ramps
  • Constructing new landings at all four corners of SW Cloverdale St and 9th Avenue SW
  • Rebuilding portions of some driveways to smoothly connect to the new sidewalks
  • Relocating the marked crosswalk at 9th Avenue SW and SW Cloverdale St to the south side of the street
  • Planting trees and grass where possible
  • Artwork will be embedded in the new sidewalk

What to expect during construction

  • Temporary driveway closures (5-7 days)
  • Parking and loading restrictions near work zones
  • Traffic and pedestrian detours
  • Moderate construction noise and dust
  • Some tree trimming and removal

Project purpose and funding

This project has been selected using the newly adopted Seattle Pedestrian Master Plan, which is a long-term master plan to make Seattle the most walkable city in the nation.

This project is part of the “Bridging the Gap” transportation levy approved by Seattle voters in November 2006.
