Pavement grinding and final paving will happen during the night and/or on a weekend. What to Expect During Construction Project Description
Each year Seattle’s Arterial Asphalt and Concrete Program resurfaces a number of streets to improve the pavement condition, and promote smoother, safer, and quieter streets. In 2008 we will be performing work on Boren Avenue and Madison Street. This project is part of the “Bridging the Gap” Transportation Initiative approved by Seattle voters in November 2006. The project includes removal and replacement of asphalt pavement, repair of portions of the concrete or brick base beneath the asphalt, and new or upgraded curb ramps to meet current standards. To encourage bicycle commuting, this project will replace many curb inlet grates with “bicycle friendly” grates that will not trap bicycle tires; and add traffic signal detector loops that will detect bikes and vehicles waiting for traffic signals. Pedestrian lighting upgrades will also be installed on Madison Street between Terry Avenue and 12th Avenue. After paving is completed, street tree planting will be coordinated by SDOT Urban Forestry. Some spot sidewalk repairs may also take place after the paving is completed. Project Location
