This Safe Routes to School project will make it safer and easier for kids to walk and bike to school by improving the intersections along SW Myrtle St, 18th Ave SW, and SW Orchard St near Sanislo Elementary School.

Project benefits will include:

  • New and widened sidewalks to improve walking connections to and from Sanislo Elementary School
  • Curb extension at the northwest corner of 18th Ave SW and SW Orchard St
  • Crosswalks to increase the visibility of students and other pedestrians
  • ADA-compliant curb ramps for better accessibility

Similar projects are being constructed at 31 Seattle schools this year.  Projects include new crosswalks, new sidewalks, new signals, and traffic calming on walking routes to school.

Schedule

SDOT completed final design in September 2016. Construction is expected to begin in summer 2017.
