What's happening now
We're creating a network of family-friendly residential streets for people walking and biking to connect the CID, Little Saigon, and Judkins Park neighborhoods.
We developed the most promising route based on what we heard, citywide transportation plans, and traffic data. View the map below to explore recommendations and take our online survey and to share your thoughts.
We’ll be mailing information and attending events throughout the summer to continue gathering feedback. Sign up for email updates here. We’ll share project information and opportunities to stay involved as we move from planning to design to construction.
What's a Neighborhood Greenway?
Neighborhood greenways are safer, calmer residential streets for you, your family, and neighbors. We make people walking and biking the priority. Neighborhood greenways can include:
- 20 mph speed limit signs
- speed humps to calm traffic
- stop signs for side streets crossing the greenway
- signs and pavement markings to help people find their way
- easier crossings of busy streets with crosswalks, flashing beacons, or traffic signals
We're engaging with people in the CID, Little Saigon, and Judkins Park communities to help us design a neighborhood greenway that connects residents with schools, restaurants, parks, shopping, and the greater transportation network, including Union Street Station. The new neighborhood greenway will bring affordable, active transportation options for all ages and abilities.
We are coordinating with the Little Saigon Streetscape planning effort, Neighborhood Street Fund (NSF), Safe Routes to School and other local projects.
One result is we'll be able to enhance the crossing at S Jackson Street to the Central Park Trail. In the early 1990's neighbors planned and advocated for this trail to help provide a connection between City parks in the Central District neighborhood. Read the materials in our project library to learn more about the history of the trail.
Summer 2016 – Winter 2017: Share route options and get feedback
Summer 2017: Share most promising route and get feedback
Fall 2017: Share final route, begin neighborhood greenway design in 2018
2018/2019: Build neighborhood greenway
This project will be funded by the 9-year Levy to Move Seattle, approved by voters in 2015. Learn more about the levy at www.seattle.gov/LevytoMoveSeattle/.
We're committed to engaging with communities and understanding your needs. Now is the time to get involved. We are holding stakeholder briefings with modal advisory boards, businesses, community groups and schools along the project corridors to talk about the project and gather their feedback.
