North/Northeast 45th Street Paving Project: Past Updates Construction Update: May 4, 2007
Construction Update: May 2, 2007 15th Avenue NE & NE 45th Street - NIGHT PAVING Work UNIVERSITY DISTRICT: On Saturday NIGHT, May 5th, weather permitting, the contractor will pave the remaining portion of NE 45th Street in the vicinity of 15th Avenue NE. If weather conditions prevent work on Saturday night, the work will be rescheduled for the following weekend. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained at all times. Parking will be prohibited during the paving work. This is the last segment of paving in the area east of the Interstate 5 Freeway. Following the final paving, miscellaneous clean-up and restoration will take place the next 2-4 weeks. April 27, 2007 Construction Update: NE 45th Street - NIGHT PAVING Work & I-5 Freeway Ramp Closure UNIVERSITY DISTRICT: Due to weather the paving work planned for tonight, April 27, will instead take place the night of April 28, 2007. On Saturday, April 28 - weather permitting, the contractor will pave NE 45th Street from the I-5 Freeway to University Way NE. The work will be done between 8:00 PM Saturday and 9:00 AM Sunday. Some Work Cancelled for this Week and Weekend Due to Weather You can expect the following construction work hours and traffic restrictions this Saturday: Work hours for the contractor will be 8:00 AM to approximately 6:00 PM. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM in some areas along NE 45th. Construction Update: March 19 LAURELHURST DISTRICT: As early as Tuesday March 20th, weather permitting, the contractor will begin asphalt re-paving on NE 45th Street between Sandpoint Way NE and 43rd Avenue NE . The re-paving work will take approximately two days to complete. We expect clean-up, restoration, and final roadway striping to be completed within two weeks after the paving. You can expect the following construction work hours and traffic restrictions:
UNIVERSITY DISTRICT: The contractor is working on NE 45th Street between the I-5 Freeway and 15th Avenue NE. Over the next four weeks, depending on weather conditions, the contractor will perform various pavement base repairs, grinding and paving activities. NIGHT WORK is necessary on Friday, March 23rd for grinding and paving at the intersection of 7th Ave NE. The northbound I-5 Freeway off-ramp will be closed from 8pm to 9am for this work. A detour to NE 50th Street exit will be posted. Although the Freeway ramps will re-open Saturday morning, work will continue throughout the day on Saturday. If weather prohibits work on Friday night, Saturday night will be used as an alternate. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction throughout the work. Significant traffic delays are expected and alternate routes are advised. You can expect the following construction work hours and traffic restrictions:
WALLINGFORD DISTRICT: In early April, the contractor will begin asphalt base repair, grinding, and paving on N 45th Street between the I-5 Freeway and Burke Avenue N. In late April, construction work will begin on N 45th Street between Burke Avenue N and N Midvale Place. Construction work and traffic restrictions will be similar to those in the University District. Future notices will provide further detail for this area. March 5, 2007 NE 45th Street Paving Work Underway in the University District Coming Soon in the Wallingford District SDOT currently has a contractor working on NE 45th Street between the I-5 Freeway and 15th Avenue NE constructing concrete bus pads, curb ramps, and sidewalk. The number of available lanes has been reduced and DELAYS ARE EXPECTED. Parking will be prohibited at times, near the intersections, when necessary to complete the work. Police officers are at the signalized intersections directing traffic. This week, Brooklyn Avenue NE, between NE 45th Street and NE 47th Street will be closed during working hours Monday thru Wednesday. Normal work hours for the contractor will be 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Bus pad construction and curb ramps work will be completed this week and the contractor will move directly into preparation for final paving. The next phase of work will primarily consist of asphalt base repair, grinding, and paving. For approximately the next five weeks, weather permitting, NE 45th Street between I-5 and 15th Avenue NE will have the following restrictions: " Monday-Friday: One lane in each direction between 6:00 AM and 2:00 PM " Saturdays: One lane in each direction between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM " Night work on two weekends beginning as early as March 23rd for grinding and paving at the intersection of 7th and 5th Avenues NE. " The I-5 freeway ramps will be closed during this work. Further advanced notice will be given. This work is part of a larger project that will improve the pavement condition, safety and mobility on N/NE 45th Street in the Wallingford, University, and Laurelhurst areas. You can expect the restrictions described above to generally occur in all the areas.
February 23, 2007 Traffic Detour Extended on NE 45th Street Last week, a contractor began working on NE 45th Street between Sand Point Way NE and 43rd Avenue NE. While making spot repairs in the roadway base in preparation for asphalt paving, the contractor discovered that more base repair was needed than previously determined. Therefore, the traffic detour will be extended for one more week, until Friday, March 2, 2007 – weather permitting.
This work is part of a larger project that will improve the pavement condition, safety and mobility on N/NE 45th Street in the Wallingford, University, and Laurelhurst areas. NE 45th Street Paving Work to Start in the University District Soon! Beginning the week of February 26, 2007 a contractor will be working on NE 45th Street between the I-5 Freeway and 15th Avenue NE constructing concrete bus pads, curb ramps, and sidewalk. The number of available lanes will be reduced and DELAYS ARE EXPECTED. The primary work areas will be between University Way NE and Brooklyn Ave NE as well as between 8th and 9th Avenues NE. Parking will be prohibited at times when necessary to complete the work. This work is part of a larger project that will improve the pavement condition, safety and mobility on N/NE 45th Street in the Wallingford, University, and Laurelhurst areas. Following the concrete pavement work, the contractor will begin the removal and replacement of the asphalt pavement in March 2007. This work will also have significant traffic impacts and weekend work is expected. More details will follow in subsequent notices. Throughout the duration of the construction project, all travel lanes on NE 45th Street will be open between 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM - Monday through Saturday. At least one lane of traffic will be open for travel in each direction at all times. Normal work hours for the contractor will be 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. There will be some weekend work throughout the duration of the project. NE 45th Street Paving to Begin Soon! This week, a contractor began working on NE 45th Street between Sand Point Way NE and 43rd Avenue NE constructing concrete curb ramps and sidewalk at the intersections. The contractor will also be making spot repairs in the roadway base in areas. The road will be open at all times, however parking will be prohibited at certain times when necessary to complete the work. Following the curb ramp and spot base repair work, the contractor will begin removal and replacement of the asphalt pavement surface. This operation will begin with the grinding of the old asphalt pavement followed by approximately one week of additional base repair work before the asphalt is replaced. Both the grinding and the paving will cause significant traffic disruptions. The grinding and paving will begin as soon as the curb ramps are complete and as weather allows. This could be as early as next week, earlier than anticipated. The overall duration of the work will be approximately 10 days for curb ramps and concrete base repair and approximately 10 days for the grinding and paving, weather permitting. Beginning the week of February 12, 2007 a contractor will be working on NE 45th Street between Sand Point Way NE and 43rd Avenue NE constructing concrete curb ramps and sidewalk at the intersections. January 30, 2007 Street Intersections to be Closed for Final Drainage Work on N 41st St Beginning this week, the contractor will begin restoring the concrete panels on N 41st Street between Stone Way N and Ashworth Ave N. To complete the street restoration work it will be necessary to close the following intersections during the times indicated: • N 41st Street and Ashworth Avenue N - January 31 to February 5, 2007 • N 41st Street and Interlake Avenue N - February 5, 2007 to February 10, 2007 Essentially, the street will "dead end" at the intersections. Access will be maintained to every residence at all times. However, it will be necessary for some residents to take an alternate route to their homes. Residents can call the 24-hour phone number previously given by the contractor for emergencies, (206) 718-6841. December 22, 2006 Drainage Work on N 41st St • The contractor will not be working next week. They will resume work on January 2, 2007. • During the break, parking will be allowed on both sides of N 41st Street between Stone Way and Interlake with the exception of a small area on the south side near Stone Way. • No parking will be allowed on the block between Interlake and Ashworth because that is the current work area and the contractor cannot safely allow parking on the opposite side of the pipe laying operation. • All parking will be open on Interlake with the exception of approximately one space at each corner of N 41st Street. • There are also some minor parking restrictions on N 41st east of Ashworth for some staging of construction materials. Residents can call the 24-hour phone number previously given by the contractor for emergencies, (206) 718-6841. November 9, 2006 Drainage Work Begins on N 41st St and Stone Way N SDOT will begin making drainage improvements to your neighborhood beginning November 14th, 2006. This work includes a main storm drain extension on N 41st Street between Stone Way N and Ashworth Ave N and new catch basins on Stone Way N. The work is expected to be completed at the end of December 2006. The main storm drain extension will be constructed beneath the sidewalk on the south side of N 41st Street. We expect this work to create some inconvenience for you and your neighbors. Vehicular traffic on N 41st Street will be limited to local access only for the duration of the work. Pedestrian access will be maintained to each property at all times. There may be short times when driveways are not accessible. However, prior notice will be given of these closures and we will work with each resident individually to notify and schedule this work. Because the new storm drain will be placed beneath the sidewalk, the sidewalk on the south side will be closed for the duration of the construction work. We will be excavating, laying pipe, and backfilling most of the trench each day. A temporary walking surface will be installed until a permanent concrete sidewalk can be poured. Work will begin on N 41st Street at Stone Way N and proceed eastward. Due to the confined work space, parking must be prohibited. The block between Stone Way N and Interlake Ave N will have parking prohibited on both sides of the street for approximately the first four weeks of construction. Afterwards, parking will generally be allowed in this area during non-working hours on the north side of the street only. Parking will be prohibited on both sides during work hours (7:00 AM to 4:00 PM). The block between Interlake Ave N and Ashworth Ave N will have parking prohibited on both sides for almost the entire duration of the construction work. Again, we understand that this work will be an inconvenience for you and your neighbors. We will be contacting you that reside on N 41st between Stone Way N and Ashworth Ave N to hear specific concerns and make accommodations for you to have access to your property. We can assure you that all work areas will be fully restored and be equal to or better than the current condition. November 9, 2006 Drainage Work Begins on Stone Way N and on N. 41st Street SDOT will begin making drainage improvements to your neighborhood beginning the week of November 13 - 17, 2006. This work includes installation of new catch basins on Stone Way N. between N. 34th and N. 38th streets, and a main storm drain extension on N 41st Street between Stone Way N and Ashworth Ave N. The work is expected to be completed at the end of December 2006. The catch basins will be installed along Stone Way N between N 34th and N 38th streets. This work will start several days after the work on N. 41st Street and will require lane closure and parking restrictions in spot locations. Work will begin on N. 41st Street on November 14, 2006. The drainage work is part of a larger project that will improve the pavement condition on N/NE 45th Street and also improve accessibility by installing new and upgrading existing curb ramps. The contractor has completed most of the curb ramp and bus stop improvements on N/NE 45th Street in the Wallingford area, and has begun similar work in the University area. October 31, 2006 Construction Work on Bus Pads Continues on N 45th Street The contractor continues to construct concrete bus pads along N/NE 45th Street between N Midvale Place and the I-5 Freeway. Since the contractor is ahead of schedule in the Wallingford area, work east of I-5 in the University District is expected to begin as early as this week. The work will include the construction of concrete bus pads in the following locations on NE 45th: • Between University Avenue NE and Brooklyn Avenue NE (south side) • Between Roosevelt Way NE and 9th Avenue NE (north side) • Between University Avenue NE and Brooklyn Avenue NE (north side) Work will begin on the south side of NE 45th between University Avenue NE and Brooklyn Avenue NE. One lane of traffic must be closed for four (4) full days for each bus pad. Traffic delays are expected. Uniformed police officers will direct traffic at the adjacent intersections during the peak periods. No two bus pads will be constructed simultaneously and parking may be prohibited at times when necessary to complete the work. Some work may occur on weekends. There will be a pause in construction activity on N/NE 45th between N. Midvale Pl and 15th Ave NE for the Holiday Season, between November 17, 2006 and January 7, 2007. The removal and replacement of the asphalt pavement surface will take place in Spring 2007. Beginning in mid-November and continuing through January 2007, the contractor will install drainage improvements on N 41st Street between Stone Way N and Ashworth Ave N and on Stone Way N between N 34th Street and N 38th Street. The contractor will also be working on NE 45th Street between Sand Point Way NE and NE 43rd Avenue constructing curb ramps and sidewalk. More detailed notices on this work will be forthcoming. October 20, 2006 Weekend Closure of N 45th Street at N Midvale Place Intersection N Midvale Place between N 45th Street and Woodland Park Ave N will be closed from Friday at 7:00 PM to Monday at 6:00 AM for the replacement of concrete panels at N 45th Street. DETOURS WILL BE POSTED near approaches to the intersection. NIGHT WORK will take place on Friday night/Saturday morning. The resultant noise from this work will be most significant on Friday evening until 10:00 PM. The contractor continues to construct concrete bus pads along N/NE 45th Street between N Midvale Place and the I-5 Freeway. The following group will be in construction this week and next.

Construction Update August 17, 2006 N/NE 45th Street Paving Work Pending resolution of a strike at King County concrete plants, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will soon begin making improvements along the North/Northeast 45th Street corridor in your neighborhood. The improvements will provide a new asphalt street surface and improve safety for pedestrians and bicycles. The work, scheduled to begin August 21, 2006, is now on hold until the concrete strike is resolved. |
