2006 Construction Projects List See what we did last year! Resurfacing | Pedestrian Improvements | Bicycle Improvements | Arterial Safety Improvements | Roadway Structures | Traffic Signals | Capital Projects | Traffic Circles/Calming Each year, the City of Seattle allocates funds for arterial paving and resurfacing. The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) manages this and other street maintenance programs. SDOT also monitors the conditions of city streets and selects the streets to be paved. The larger part of the arterial paving funds is used for work bid out to private contractors. In addition to the work performed by private contractors, SDOT's own street-paving crews perform small spot-paving projects on arterial streets. In addition to the streets included in Seattle Department of Transportation's annual paving program, some streets are paved as part of projects that include general street improvements. South Henderson Street Improvements Improve access and mobility for pedestrians, transit, bicyclists, freight and vehicles. Street improvements focus on pedestrian safety. Planting strips and street trees between the sidewalk and the roadway are added by relocating the curb and gutter. Curb bulbs are installed at key pedestrian crossings. Other street improvements include widening the existing sidewalk, repairing pavement base, repairing existing bus layover areas, and installing new pedestrian lighting. The improvements to South Henderson Street will connect the Henderson Street light rail station with the Rainier Beach commercial area.Construction Scheduled to Begin: Summer 2006 Estimated Construction Cost: $700,000 Contact: Diana Holloway 15th Avenue NE from NE 125th Street to NE 145th Street * This project is part of the Seattle Department of Transportation's Arterial Asphalt and Concrete Program and includes asphalt resurfacing, placement of loop detectors for signals, and wheelchair curb ramp upgrades.
