16th Avenue SW Paving Project
Revised October 2, 2009 Update: 16th Avenue SW Construction Complete The reconstruction of 16th Avenue SW between SW Findlay and SW Brandon streets is now complete, with a dramatic improvement in what was a very dilapidated roadway. Crews working for the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) rebuilt and slightly widened the road; made drainage improvements including a new storm drain and street drain inlets; repaved the walkway on the west side of the street; and rebuilt the concrete driveways.
Repairing the 5400 block of 16th Ave SW, at north end of South Seattle Community College, took about eight weeks and wrapped up on-schedule and on-budget. This project is part of the “Bridging the Gap” transportation levy approved by Seattle voters in November 2006. Update: 16th Avenue SW Construction to Begin Starting Wednesday or Thursday, July 22 or 23, construction crews plan to bring in equipment and prepare for reconstruction of 16th Avenue SW, between SW Findlay Street and SW Brandon Street. There may be some traffic interruptions with assistance of flaggers this week, but they will be short in duration. Starting Monday, July 27, the 16th Avenue SW roadway will be closed to northbound traffic at SW Findlay Street. For motorists traveling on 16th Avenue SW with destinations north of SW Findlay, the only through access will be by way of SW Austin St/Dumar Way SW/SW Orchard St and Delridge Way SW. There are no other through streets north of SW Austin to allow traffic to get north of SW Findlay. Construction is expected to last six to eight weeks. Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will reconstruct a section of pavement that is now in very poor condition on 16th Avenue SW between SW Findlay Street and SW Brandon Street. A portion of the street will be widened. This project is part of the “Bridging the Gap” transportation levy approved by Seattle voters in November 2006.
