5. Bob's Quality Meats, 4861 Rainier:

A butcher shop has been a fixture in the 4800 block of Rainier Avenue S since Columbia City's earliest days. The historic photograph shows one of them -- Brassington's Meat Market -- in the early 1900s, when it was flanked by a bakery on one side and a grocery on the other. By 1911, the meat market had moved into the false-fronted storefront once occupied by the grocery at 4861 Rainier Avenue S. The shop is now operated by Bob Ackley (right) and his son, Jim (left), and grandson, Abe (center). Customers come in for the conviviality as much as for the fresh meat and poultry.
