Mind the Gap Project
Kawabe Memorial House
Grant Award: $10,000
Using a wireless connection and a volunteer internal wiring team,
this community technology project will extend training and free
Internet service to low-income seniors in Hilltop House and
Kawabe Memorial House, two HUD-financed housing communities. The resident-led pilot project brings high speed
Internet to the computer training labs and individual apartments.
Jack Straw Productions
Grant Award: $10,000
Blind and visually impaired youth and adults will be provided with
a digital recording and editing workstation. The grant will enable
Jack Straw staff to teach classes and offer individual blind
community members the ability to record and edit their own radio
programs and audio projects without the assistance of a sighted
engineer. The Project partners with Arts & Visually Impaired
Audiences to provide training to youth.
Computing for Empowerment
Washington CASH
Grant Award: $7,500
Washington CASH will build on their Business Technology
Training Program serving low-income business owners. City support will
enable Washington Cash to offer more goal-oriented
business technology courses, individual technical assistance, and
increased computer access in addition to their basic business
technology series.
Computer Literacy Program
Ethiopian Community Mutual Association
Grant Award: $7,500
This grant will enable program support and purchase of software to
provide after-school tutoring and academic enrichment for children
in K-12. The objective of this program is to help create an
educated and responsible generation by tutoring low income families. The project will work with parents and will also support
an Amharic language class by means of computer aided education.
Sant Point Community Technology Center
Low Income Housing Institute
Grant Award: $7,500
The LIHI Sand Point grant will enhance program outreach to Sand
Point residents and the surrounding neighborhood. Provide training
and access to 100 new individuals at the Sand Point CTC. Training
includes computer basics, Microsoft Office Specialist certification,
web design and other software applications. The grant will also
enable outreach to enlarge the LIHI ctc stable volunteer pool.
Techmobile
Boys & Girls Club of King County
Grant Award: $7,500
City support will enable the Techmobile project to offer 400
youths(8-18) the opportunity to increase media literacy and
develop their own video/media productions, including community
related media service announcements. City funds will be used to
buy new equipment & software and provide development support.
