Richard Conlin
Seattle City Council Member

Richard Conlin was elected to the Seattle City Council in November 1997 and started officially as a City Councilmember in January 1998. Richard is Chair of the Council's Neighborhoods, Growth Planning, and Civic Engagement Committee; Vice-Chair of the Utilities and Environmental Management Committee; and a member of the Finance and Budget Committee.

He also serves as a member of the following regional committees: the Seattle-King County Board of Health, Metropolitan King County Regional Water Quality Committee, Growth Management Planning Council of King County, Puget Sound Regional Council Growth Management Policy Board, and the Joint Committee on Education.

Richard is one of the co-founders of Sustainable Seattle, an organization that publishes a bi-annual "Indicators of Sustainable Community," that measure Seattle's progress towards long-term cultural, economic, environmental, and social health. The use of indicators to measure progress towards or away from sustainability has been embraced by governments around the world, such as King County and Guadalajara, Mexico.

As a Council member, Richard and his staff also devote at least one day a month to a community service project with different organizations in the Seattle community. These projects help to highlight the need for volunteers and the rewards of volunteerism and civic engagement.
