Community Technology

The Seattle Commission on Electronic Communications works to develop both a short-term and long-term vision for the City's television station and its web site. It seeks to increase public awareness, understanding, and participation in government, community and cultural affairs.

Its goal is to be a national leader in using technology to dramatically expand civic engagement and public discourse by transforming TVSea into a multimedia organization that provides compelling content and two-way communication opportunities.

Its mission is to inform and engage citizens in the governmental, civic and cultural affairs of Seattle through compelling use of television, Internet and other media.

A democracy portal is in the works. New methods for participation already include e-mail contact with the Mayor and City Council, online discussions, public access network television call-in shows, as well as web sites where you can participate in on-line surveys. Seattle intends to incorporate new technologies as they emerge.
