Mayor, Chief introduce public to 20/20 team

One month after the announcement of our SPD 20/20 Plan to reform the police department in 20 months, we are outlining our progress so far, our organizational structure for implementing the plan, and our overall philosophy of how best to create lasting change in a large organization. We will also introduce the public to the SPD 20/20 Team of officers who will lead 20/20 implementation and launch our public engagement and accountability tools, including a new website for the public to track the status of 20/20 implementation and a Speaker’s Bureau of experts available to walk community members through the plan and our progress.

Mayor Mike McGinn announces new police department reform

SPD 20/20: A Vision for the Future, will guide the implementation of 20 new reform initiatives over the next 20 months

Mayor Mike McGinn, Police Chief John Diaz and Assistant Chief of Operations Mike Sanford today announced a package of new reform initiatives for the Seattle Police Department, with the goal of supporting a just and effective police force.

The reforms fall under five major categories:

  • Protecting Constitutional Rights
  • Training for Seattles Values
  • Earning Public Trust
  • Using Data-Driven Practices
  • Partnering with the Public
