Seattle Pedestrian Advisory Board

Committees:

The Board has three committees: Advisory, Standards, and Plans.

The Advisory Committee is made up of the Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary, and is chartered with finalizing texts of written and oral advisories to the Mayor, City Council, and City Departments such as Seattle Transportation. Additional duties include delivering advisories to designated addressees and meetings, reporting back on advisories delivered, keeping file, and tracking Docket Items with Council Central Staff and Neighborhood Committee staff.

The Standards Committee determines the long-term goals of the Board and reviews whether city policy and enforcement are aligned with those goals. They work with Seattle Transportation staff to review, advise, and prepare the SPAB agenda leading to endorsement of elements of the Pedestrian Facilities Standards document and other Seattle Transportation plans and studies.

The Standards committee is currently involved in the Street Use Manual revision process, investigating increased enforcement of crosswalks by SPD, reviewing Metro policies on wheelchair boarding, among other tasks.

The Board relies on Seattle Transportation for briefings on major City construction projects, but the Plans Committee is responsible for monitoring projects not managed by Seattle Transportation, such as those that fall under County, State, or Port of Seattle jurisdiction.

The Plans Committee is monitoring and providing feedback on the Trans-Lake Washington Study improvements to 520 and I-5, SR99 Alaska Way Viaduct replacement, Sound Transit Link light rail design, Waterfront Streetcar extension, and monorail, among other projects.
