Report and Action Plan

Immigrant and Refugee Initiative 2010 - 2012 Action Plan

In 2010 the City of Seattle updated the Immigrant and Refugee Initiative 2010 - 2012 Action Plan. The new plan summarizes five major immigrant and refugee related issues, highlights departments' actions, and outlines goals and actions for the next three years.

At the beginning of 2011, responsibility for the Immigrant and Refugee Initiative was transferred to the Seattle Office for Civil Rights. SOCR is working with City departments to implement the plan and incorporate it within the Race and Social Justice Initiative.

Earlier Reports and Plans

To learn more about the concerns and needs of residents in these communities, in May 2006 the City hired a consultant to design and carry out a community engagement project. In January 2007, Mayor Nickels released a summary of the project’s findings.  Released in January 2007, their findings contributed to the development of the Immigrant and Refugees Report and Action Plan. The plan outlined key steps the city would take to improve services to Seattle's growing immigrant and refugee population including: improved translation and interpretation services, technical assistance for immigrant-owned businesses, increased access to city grants and an advisory board focused on immigrant and refugee concerns.
