Community Institute for Racial Equity

The Community Institute for Racial Equity offers workshops and trainings, many of them free, to help strengthen community leadership and action for racial justice through training and support.

Both community groups and City staff design and facilitate these offerings. Some offerings are designed for groups or individuals with specific experiences and needs. Please read training and workshop descriptions to determine whether they will best serve the needs of you and your group. Most trainings are free and some carry a minimal fee to cover the cost of food and/or space.

Turning Commitment into Action for Arts & Cultural Groups
2015 Cohort #1

  • May 15 from 8am–6pm
  • May 29 from 9am–6pm
  • July 15 from 1pm–5pm
  • A final session in the fall (Date TBD)

The Office for Civil Rights is thrilled to partner with the Office of Arts & Culture on this adaptation of our Community Institute training, Turning Commitment into Action. This learning and planning cohort is designed to give groups the tools they need to turn their commitments to building racial equity – both within their organizations and through their work in and with community – into actions for tangible change.

Participants will develop skills to address perceived and actual barriers to racial equity within their organizations and the arts and cultural sector. They’ll use a racial equity assessment to identify personal and organizational power and targeted strategies to achieve racial equity. They will then develop a plan to create racial equity within their groups and through their work with artists, audiences, partners and communities.
