Policies - Environmental Due Diligence

The purpose of environmental due diligence is to gather reliable information about the environmental condition of  real property subject to a transaction.  City decision-makers will use this information to decide whether to go forward with the transaction and, if the transaction is pursued, to structure the transaction to minimize legal liability and/or fairly allocate environmental risk and cost of any necessary cleanup.  The Executive Policy approved in 1995 provides guidance to departments on real estate transactions, and encourages close coordination with the City’s Law Department to assure transactions are structured effectively.

Leg. History - Approved by the Mayor in October, 1995 as Executive Policy.
