Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce (ICAC) COMBATTING THE PROBLEM Today, an estimated 80 million kids are be online. With so many children using the internet, it is much easier for predators to find and exploit them. The Seattle Northwest Regional Task Force is working hard every day to protect children who use the internet, by using the latest techniques to find online predators and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. The Task Force investigates any computer crime involving children anywhere in the state. These crimes can include: sexual exploitation of children, child pornography, child cyber-stalking, communication with a minor, and sexual assault of children. Since 2000, the Task Force has investigated thousands of cases and arrested over 200 suspects. In 2004, Seattle was one of only six cities to receive the Cyber Safe City Award. THE SEATTLE NW REGIONAL ICAC TASK FORCE In 2000 the Seattle Police Department received an 18 month, $300,000 grant from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention for the funding to enhance, develop, and coordinate improved investigation and response to Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC). At the time, SPD was just one of 29 law enforcement agencies nationwide awarded a grant to investigate crimes against children with a computer nexus. Since that time, ICAC in the Northwest has continued to grow, adding affiliate agencies in Washington and Alaska and receiving over $2 million dollars in grant funding. The Seattle NW Regional ICAC has gained the reputation as one of the best ICAC Task Forces in the nation. In addition, the Seattle ICAC Task Force was also instrumental in implementing the King County Amber Alert Plan and has also begun to work in the area of Human Trafficking.
