Anti-Crime Teams (ACT)

ABOUT THE ANTI-CRIME TEAMS

Anti-Crime Teams (ACT Teams) were developed to respond to the surge in the number of “crack houses” that were flourishing in Seattle neighborhoods in the early 1980’s.  At the time, the sheer number of residences that were operating in this capacity overwhelmed the Narcotics Unit.  Neighborhoods that prior to this time had seen little to no narcotics activity were being affected and community members were demanding quick action.

To assist, each precinct developed a team of specially trained officers, who were tasked with the high-risk activity of serving search warrants and arresting offenders who were operating out of these locations.

PROGRAM SUCCESSES

Since its inception (and the reduction of crack houses) the teams have taken on a variety of enforcement activities that require high-risk procedures, such as narcotics interdiction, gang related emphasis, and other enforcement activities that require specialized and on-going training.  They continue to work closely with the Narcotics Unit as well as the Gang Unit.  The benefit of the having these units in the precinct is that a customized response can be constructed to address emerging crimes that, if not resolved quickly, are much harder to eliminate.
