OFFICER MIKE FREESE

Recently the Rainier Chamber of Commerce honored Officer Mike Freese as their Officer of the Quarter.

Officer Freese graduated from Minnesota State University at Moorhead with a double major in Sociology and Criminal Justice.  Mike was hired by SPD in November 2006 and has been assigned to Patrol in the South Precinct since 2007.  He currently works in Sam district but he has worked in various districts in the South Precinct. 

Officer Freese has shown his commitment to the community by working hard to provide a place where people feel safe.  Mike has captured several burglary suspects.  He assisted in arresting four burglary suspects in a car.  He then wrote a search warrant for the car and recovered all the stolen property and a gun.  In late July Officer Freese recognized a material witness in a Tucson Arizona homicide bulletin.  He located the material witness who is homeless and arranged a meeting between him and the Tucson Homicide Detective.  That case is solved thanks to Officer Freese.  In August Officer Freese was on patrol in the area of the Rainier Community Center when he spotted some known gang members in the car used in an earlier burglary.  He approached to investigate and saw a gun protruding from under the front seat.  He recovered the gun and turned the suspects over to the Gang Unit.

Officer Freese believes if people unite as a community they can stand up to anything.  Mike has demonstrated that he will work with and for the members of this community to provide quality public safety.

OFFICER CHRIS TOMAN

WELCOME TO OFFICER TOMAN TO CPT!

We would like to welcome Officer Chris Toman to the South Precinct Community Police Team.  Officer Toman came from the East Precinct and is an 8-year veteran of SPD.  While working in patrol Officer Toman qualified as a Taser officer and a rifle officer.  Chris is a Field Training Officer and was responsible for training and directing 8 student officers.  Because of his experience and solid work ethic Officer Toman joined the East Precinct Bicycle Squad.  This is a highly proactive unit, investigations include drug traffic loitering and drug trafficking intervention.  There he dealt with many of those quality of life issues that affect the community. 

As a member of the South Precinct Community Police Team officer Toman is the representative working with the Seattle Housing Authority (SHA) at various sites in the South and Southwest Precinct.   Chris works with SHA residents and SHA Senior Property Managers in the SHA sites to investigate criminal activity, provide crime prevention, and help managers deal with eviction and lease enforcement issues.

Officer Toman is a great addition to the South Precinct and the Community Police Team.
