PRECINCT CAPTAIN Jim DERMODY
Captain Dermody began his police career with the Seattle Police Department in 1990. He is proud to be a second generation Seattle Police Officer who was born, raised and still resides in the city. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Society and Justice from the University of Washington (UW) and his Executive Masters in Public Administration from UW's Daniel J. Evans School of Public Affairs. He is a graduate of the Senior Management Institute for Police at Boston University and is a member of Leadership Tomorrow-Seattle's Class of 2008.
His previous assignments include Patrol, Anti-Crime and SWAT at both the officer and sergeant ranks. After promotion to Lieutenant in 2001, assignments have included East Precinct Watch Commander and Operations (including Federal Weed & Seed Grant), Southwest Precinct Watch Commander, West Precinct Operations and Homicide/CSI Commander. He is currently the Secretary/Treasurer of the Seattle Police Relief Association, a 501(c)(9) VEBA in existence since 1893. He was promoted to Captain in 2009 and was assigned as the East Precinct Commander until 2012. He currently commands the 200 men and women of the West Precinct who provide service, pride and dedication to the neighborhoods of SODO, Chinatown/ID, Pioneer Square, Downtown, South Lake Union, Queen Anne and Magnolia.
