The Seattle Police Department is looking for highly motivated, positive, people-oriented candidates for our state-of-the-art 9-1-1 call center (the busiest call center in the state). If you have excellent computer skills, can multi-task in a multi-media environment and have a stable work history The Seattle Police Department wants you to "Take the Call!"
- Must meet qualifications
- Able to handle a high-volume of calls while making decisions quickly and accurately.
- Use questioning and inquiry skills to draw out specific information from callers who are upset, frightened, abusive, or hurt while remaining calm and emotionally detached.
- Good communication skills and the ability to treat callers courteously and tactfully.
- Willing to work the shifts a structured 24/7 workplace requires.
The Seattle Police 9-1-1 Call Center handles all emergency calls for the city of Seattle and is the busiest emergency call center in the state. Located in downtown Seattle, the call center provides 24/7 coverage to the city, and dispatchers work five different shifts.
The Seattle Police Department offers 9-1-1 dispatchers the most comprehensive training in the state. Upon successful completion on an extensive and intensive training program, employees who are hired as a Dispatcher I may compete for promotional opportunities to Police Communications Dispatcher II, Dispatcher III and then to Chief Dispatcher!
The Department appreciates the importance of our 9-1-1 Dispatchers. In addition to providing extensive training and on the job experience, the call center is a state of the art facility designed to provide ideal conditions to make the job more comfortable and to reduce stress.
