[web graphic]

Civilian (non-sworn) police employees are responsible for many of the important functions within the department. Because SPD civilian employees work directly with police, you are required to pass a background check and be comfortable in a law enforcement environment that handles sensitive and confidential materials.

These positions are hired through the City of Seattle Personnel Department and jobs are constantly being updated. Please visit the Career Center and search for "police" to see what opportunities are available.

9-1-1 DISPATCHER - There are few jobs more important than being a 9-1-1 Dispatcher. In an emergency, your voice is the first heard by somebody in need and your skills save lives. Our state of the art emergency call center is the busiest in the state, and all of our dispatchers receive extensive training and on the job experience. [Learn more about this job]

PARKING ENFORCEMENT- Parking Enforcement Officers (PEOs) are responsible for patrolling the entire city limits and enforcing all parking violations on city property. PEOs also cite abandoned vehicles, assist officers in locating stolen vehicles, provide traffic direction during events and accident scenes. Parking Enforcement offers job security and great city benefits in a job that is highly active, mobile and fun!

ADMINISTRATIVE/TECHNICAL- Administrative and Technical civilian jobs vary widely; from a stablehand for the Mounted Patrol to timekeeping in Personnel! There are jobs maintaining police records, maintaining the patrol fleet, storing and managing evidence, Information Technology, Latent Prints, crime prevention and many more. Check the City Career Center to view current availabilities.
