SPD 20/20, A commitment to hiring great officers
The Seattle Police Department 20/20 Plan is a comprehensive package of new reform initiatives for the Seattle Police Department (SPD) with the goal of supporting a just and effective police force. One of the 20/20 Plan components is to recruit great officers. It is projected that in the next 5 years, over 300 police officers will likely retire. As such, there is an opportunity to continue to hire local officers who reflect Seattle’s values and increasing diversity and represent all of its communities.
WORKING WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERS
To assist with this goal the Mayor’s Office and SPD are conducting a pilot project to work with Community Based Organizations (CBOs) to increase the pool of police officer recruits who reflect the diversity of the local community and come from Seattle and its environs.
