Media Relations Office

The Seattle Police Department believes a responsible and effective partnership with the media is vital to our mission. We depend on that partnership - as well as community trust and confidence - in carrying out our responsibilities. There is one sergeant and three media relations officers assigned to this office, who respond to media requests as early as possible, release public safety information in a timely manner, and accommodate other media requests when needed.

CALLING US

For media inquiries during business hours between Monday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., call 206-684-5520. If we are unable to answer the phone immediately, please leave a voice mail message so that we can return your call as early as we can.

For media inquiries during non-business hours and on weekends, direct your media inquiries appropriately to the Precinct Watch Commander, who can immediately respond to your calls:

West Precinct: 206-684-8905
East Precinct: 206-684-4318
South Precinct: 206-386-1850
Southwest Precinct: 206-733-9800
North Precinct: 206-684-0856

You may also call the Media Update Line (24-hours/7-days) at 206-684-5522 for any police-related information that may be of interest to your agency. The line is regularly updated in the morning and again in the evening.

VISITING US

Prior to your visit during business hours, please let us know as early as possible so that we can advise the lobby security officer of your arrival. The office is located at the Seattle Police Headquarters, 610 Fifth Avenue, 8th Floor, in downtown Seattle. The public entrance is on Fifth Avenue, between James and Cherry Streets.

MEDIA CREDENTIAL REQUESTS

Media representatives who are directly employed by agencies of print, television, radio, and electronic media may be issued a Seattle Police Department media credential. These three-year term credentials are only for identification purposes, and may be revoked at anytime by the department. They do not confer any special and extraordinary privileges or imply endorsements by the department.

All requests must be made in person at the Seattle Police Headquarters, 6th Floor Human Resources Section, 610 5th Avenue, Seattle WA 98124-4986. You must bring photo ID and verification of employment (company ID and/or a verification of employment letter from your employer).
