4.150 - Funeral Leave

4.150-POL
This policy applies to all Department employees requesting funeral leave.

Sworn employees may use five days paid funeral leave for a "close relative" or "relative other than a close relative".
Non-sworn employees may use one day of paid funeral leave for a "close relative".
- If the non-sworn employee must travel 200 miles or more, then one additional day of funeral leave with pay is allowed.
- Non-sworn employees may take four additional days of "Sick Leave" amounting to five days off.
4.150-PRO-1 Requesting Funeral Leave
Employee
1. Completes the Application for Funeral Leave (form 2.91).
2. Submits the form to their Sergeant/Supervisor.
Sergeant/Supervisor
3. Approves or disapproves the request, then forwards the form up the chain of command.
Lieutenant/Manager
4. Approves or disapproves the request, then forwards the form up the chain of command.
Captain/Director
5. Approves or disapproves the request.
6. If approved, forwards to Payroll and notifies Sergeant/Supervisor.
Sergeant/Supervisor
7. Notifies the requesting employee.
8. Marks "RA" on the timesheet for regular funeral leave days off.
9. Marks "RB" for non-sworn employees using sick time to attend a funeral.
