HYDRO MAINTENANCE WORKER I - GENERATION

Class Summary:  

Positions in this class perform general cleaning and maintenance duties at and around the Powerhouse and on vehicles and provide support to other skilled workers.  

Distinguishing Characteristics of the Class:  

This is the assistant level in the Hydro Maintenance series. Positions in this class, under direct supervision, perform cleaning and maintenance duties around the Powerhouse by clearing roads, trails, culverts and rivers of trash and debris; by mowing the grass and weeds and by performing general routine maintenance on vehicles, log booms and docks. The work requires knowledge of tools such as electric drills, table saws, pipe benders and cutters used in the maintenance and electrical trades.  Guidelines exist in the form of technical and repair manuals and standard operating policies and procedures.  Special assignments not covered by guidelines are discussed with supervisor.  This class is distinguished from the Hydro Maintenance Worker II-Generation in that positions in this class perform routine maintenance work.  Personal contact is primarily with inter-departmental employees, vendors and governmental employees to provide and exchange information.  

Examples of Work:  

  • Cleans powerhouse and garage by sweeping, mopping, dusting and removing trash from building.

  • Maintains powerhouse grounds by mowing grass and spraying for weeds and cutting brush along roadway and under powerhouse lines.

  • Assists in maintaining roadways by cleaning ditches, patching holes and cleaning culverts.

  • Assists in cleaning generators being repaired.

  • Cleans and unplugs drains.

  • Removes trash from river; and assists in installing trash booms, log booms and dock sections in river.

  • Performs routine maintenance of vehicles including changing oil, grease and tire repair.

  • Orders supplies for the garage and vehicles.

  •  Maintains and services fire extinguishes.

  • Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:  

Required to work outdoors in all types of weather.  Required to work around potentially hazardous equipment, toxic chemicals and materials.  Required to work at heights and in dangerous situations.  Required to lift or move objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds.  Required to stand, walk or bend for extended periods of time.  

Minimum Qualifications:  

One year experience performing general laboring/manual work, good physical condition and the ability to work with hand and power tools and equipment.  

Licensing and Other Requirements:  

Current state of Washington drivers license.
