Start Police Exam Registration Starting salary is $4,188.18 per month for police recruits. Upon completion of the 720-hour basic law enforcement course of instruction, candidates will be sworn into positions of police officer and given an increase to $5,056 per month. That will be increased to $5,421 after six months, and to $5,667 $5,886, $6,179, and $6,620 in successive 12-month steps. Vacancies General Statement of Duties Minimum Qualifications
NOTE: A felony conviction is disqualifying. Evidence of excessive past or current drug/alcohol usage may be grounds for disqualification. Other factors for disqualification which will be considered include driving record, criminal history and employment history. Seattle residence is not required for application or appointment. A pre-employment drug test is required. NOTE: Typing: Ability to accurately type at least 35 wpm is highly desirable. NOTE: The City of Seattle provides police service 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays is required. Examinations Written: Physical Agility Exam:
Candidates will participate in written and video exams. It will be approximately four weeks before you receive your test scores and ranking on the hiring register. After you receive your test scores, if you are considered for hiring, you will be required to return to Seattle for approximately four days to complete the remainder of the screening process. If you are contacted by the Department to continue in the selection process, you will be required to complete a Washington State Criminal Justice Training Center physical agility exam, a background assessment, a polygraph test, a psychological exam, an oral board exam and a medical exam. The hiring register will be in effect for approximately 12 months and you could be hired anytime during that time. If you wish to retest, you must wait six months between exams. The Department hires based on the number of current vacancies. **Academic degrees and prior police experience are not required for appointment. **Academic incentive pay is not applicable; however, consideration is given in competitive promotional examinations. **The Seattle Police Department is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
