The Seattle Department of Human Resources provides services for the City of Seattle's diverse workforce. We do this so that employees are managed fairly, are well-trained, supported, and assigned job duties to accomplish City business goals in a cost-effective, efficient and safe manner. Along with human resource services, we also provide human resource tools, expert assistance and information to our internal and external customers.

People are the City of Seattle's greatest asset. The Seattle Department of Human Resources is responsible for centrally setting the pace for human resources services: identifying, hiring, and retaining our dynamic, diverse workforce as well as developing and administering our compensation and benefits program to create a quality employee experience.


New - Paid Parental Leave
The City of Seattle is pleased to announce that effective May 17, 2015, eligible City employees may receive up to four weeks (160 hours) paid leave to bond with their new child. To be eligible, an employee must have worked for the City of Seattle for at least six months and have experienced a qualifying event. The leave must be taken within 12 months of the child’s birth or placement for adoption or foster care.
