Seattle Teen Arts Leadership Group

 

Teen Arts Leadership Group (name TBD by members) is a new Power of Hope/Seattle Parks Teens project that will bring together a diverse group of 12 youth to build community, gain leadership and facilitation skills, explore various arts forms, plan and promote community events and facilitate arts workshops for other youth. Members will also get service-learning hours for school, earn scholarships towards Power of Hope camps, and attend various plays, music, and dance performances.

Who Will Be Part of It:
Youth, ages 14-18, who have experience and/or interest in the arts, are willing to commit to weekly meetings, and who are chosen through the application process. The group will be youth-driven with Power of Hope staff and teaching artists skilled in theater, singing, writing, spoken word, visual arts, and more helping to guide the process.

How It Will Happen:
Weekly meetings will be held at the Power of Hope (located in the Youngstown Cultural Arts Center) starting in March 2007, for the first 3 weeks of every month. On the fourth week of the month, youth will go out into the community in teams to facilitate arts workshops for other youth. Youth will attend other events as they occur. The group will meet for the remainder of the school year and re-convene in the fall.

We're looking for applicants who:

  • Are 14-18 years old
  • Have an interest in the arts and some experience in one or more art forms
  • Can commit to attending weekly meetings and other scheduled events
