| PROJECT DESCRIPTION |
The Pro Parks Levy project has provided funding
to implement three high priority improvements to Westcrest Park.
Off-leash area:
Approximately 4.5 acres of open space for dogs to expend some energy!
- A new gravelled parking lot at the north entrance at 4th Ave SW and
SW Cloverdale Street.
- A new water service at the north entrance.
- Split-rail perimeter fencing and some slope protection fencing for
sensitive areas.
- Signage and a new kiosk are forthcoming.
Play area:
New playground equipment including a multi-level structure, swings, and
spring toys. Nearby picnic tables, benches and barbeques make a nice place
for other family members to relax and enjoy the setting.
Trail Upgrades:
One central trail has been widened and surfaced with crushed rock for ease
of walking through the park. Other trails, one that leads to the upper meadow
of the off-leash area from the north parking lot and a path along SW Cloverdale
have also been constructed. Directional signage at key locations is forthcoming. |

| COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION |
|
A 1975 master plan developed for the park (then called
West Seattle Reservoir Park) by Richard Haag identified many park improvements
that needed to be made to the park. In Spring of 2000, Westcrest Community
Action Network and Friends of Westcrest worked together to develop a site
improvement plan accomodating a wide range of park activities including
among other ideas: off-leash area improvements, trail enhancements, and
family activity areas such as a playground.
With the onset of Pro Parks Levy funding, Parks staff led a series of
public meetings to identify priority ideas for taking through to construction.
This led to the improvements you can see in the park today.
